Description

The objective of the To-Be Application Landscape is to connect the Business Process design & Information Model and the application facilities that support the Business processes and Information services. The extent to which the Application planning is part of the Business Analysis assignment should be made explicit. In the Focus and Direction phase the agreed scope will determine to what extent the To-Be Application Landscape planning will be addressed and to what level of detail.

It may have been agreed in the Focus and Direction phase that the expected result of the assignment should be a software package selection or feasibility study. It those cases this application related activity is in scope. In the case that business requirements collection has been requested, Application Landscape planning is not in scope.

In some market segments it is custom to include Application Landscape planning as part of the Business Analysis domain. In other market segments Business Analysis seldom extends beyond the process design and process implementation design. The Business Analysis engagement is completed by handing over process and implementation design. A subsequent IT oriented engagement may use these designs and business requirements as stepping stone for application design or selection.
